Government Business Loan
Government assistance to businesses is given from the territory, state and federal government and in many cases even from local councils to support thousands of business houses in Australia. Most business assistance by the Government is given for activities involving growth of the business, development and research work, innovation and exporting. These are in the form of free or low cost advisory, information, guidance and grant assistance. They are rarely given as business loans and companies have to turn to conventional funding channels such as banks to get the loan.
However, there are hundreds of assistance programs extended to variety of businesses by the Government focused to different kinds of business activities. Thus, there are federal loans for business activities in businesses related to agriculture, primary food production, forestry and fisheries from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry. Then, there are loans available for education related activities from Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Small businesses can also benefit from this channel of the Government and can find useful information at Smaal Business Development Corporation website.
Generally, start up businesses are not given such assistance from the Government, but there are a few exceptions to this rule. There are some “right businesses” or business activities in the priority sector of the Government, such as generating efficient, renewable energy, and those who are planning to start a business in these areas can easily get the Government assistance in the form of grant that can serve as start up money for their business.
